Political Science with Teacher Licensure

Students seeking middle school or secondary licensure should see the appropriate licensure advisor for additional information.

I. Required courses in the major—at least 34 hours including:

POLS 220 - Principles of American Political Behavior (4)
POLS 281 - Principles of International Relations (4)
POLS 450 - Classic Political Studies and the Contemporary World (3)
POLS 460 - Senior Colloquium (1-3)

Additional hours must include one of the following options:

POLS 401 and at least 2 hours in POLS 400 ; or
both POLS 390 and POLS 490 .

II. Required courses outside the major—28 hours:

ECON 101 - Principles of Macroeconomics (3)
HIST 101 - The United States to 1865 (3)
HIST 102 - The United States Since 1865 (3)
HIST 151 - World Civilizations to 1500 (3)
HIST 152 - World Civilizations Since 1500 (3)
STAT 185 - Introductory Statistics (4)
PSYC 100 - Introductory Psychology (3)
PSYC 319 - Educational Psychology (3)

One course from:

SOC 200 - Criminology (3)
SOC 210 - Contemporary Social Problems (3)
SOC 220 - Juvenile Delinquency (3)

Education courses:

Students must also complete the required EDUC courses as indicated in the Education section of the catalog.

III. Other departmental requirements:

Senior competency is demonstrated by satisfactory completion of POLS 450 , POLS 460 ; and either POLS 400 or both POLS 390 and POLS 490 . Computer competency and oral competency are satisfied by POLS 460 .
