Middle School Licensure (6–9)

All students must complete a major in an appropriate academic discipline, and must complete coursework specific for licensure in one of the following areas: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science or Social Studies. Students whose licensure area is different from their major must take the middle grade Praxis II in that field.

State standards for Language Arts and Social Studies licensure are met by completion of the ILS Core Cluster in Humanities (HUM 124, 214 and 324). Students transferring to UNC Asheville must either take these courses, or have completed courses at other institutions that satisfy the required standards.
