This concentration is coordinated with the Education Department to provide licensure in K-12 Health and Physical Education. Students who wish to receive teacher licensure should review requirements found in the Education section of the catalog and see the appropriate Education advisor for additional information.

I. Required courses in the major-at least 35 hours, including:

HWP 190 - Introduction to Health Promotion (3)
HWP 223 - Physical Activity and Health (3)
HWP 224 - Mental and Emotional Health (3)
HWP 225 - Nutrition and Lifestyle (3)
HWP 294 - Human Physiology (4)
HWP 310 - Community Health Promotion: Theory and Practice (4)
HWP 335 - Health Communication (3)
HWP 455 - Pathophysiology of Chronic Conditions and Illnesses (3)
HWP 459 - Senior Seminar in Health and Wellness Promotion (3)
Note: BIOL 338 may be substituted for HWP 294.

At least 6 additional elective hours at the 200-400 level

Note: HWP 295 may not be used to satisfy both the elective requirement and the HWP science requirement, listed below.

IV. Other departmental requirements:

Major competency is demonstrated in HWP 459. A grade of C or higher in HWP 310 and 459 is required to graduate.
