Environmental Science: Concentration in Environmental Management and Policy

Environmental Science majors must fulfill the following requirements:

I. Required courses in the major—16 hours:

One course from:

ENVS 234 - Energy and Society (3)
ENVS 282 - Environmental Geology (3)
ENVS 334 - Environmental Policy (3)
Note: ENVS 334 is required for students completing the Environmental Management and Policy concentration.

At least three hours from:

II. Required courses outside the major—12-16 hours:

CHEM 111 - General Chemistry Laboratory (1)
CHEM 132 - General Chemistry (3)
CHEM 145 - Quantitative Chemistry Laboratory (1)
MATH 167 - Precalculus (4)
STAT 185 - Introductory Statistics (4)
Note: MATH 191 may be taken in lieu of both MATH 167 and STAT 185.

One course from:

CHEM 231 - Organic Chemistry I (3)
CHEM 233 - Foundations of Inorganic Chemistry (3)
CHEM 236 - General Chemistry II (3)
Note: CHEM 233 or 236 is required for students completing the Geoscience concentration or Earth Science Teacher Licensure.

III. Major competency:

Demonstrated in ENVS 480. A grade of C or higher is required to graduate.

IV. Special departmental requirements—28–31 hours, depending on concentration:

Concentration in Environmental Management and Policy—33 hours distributed as follows:

At least 3 hours in ENVS at the 300-400 level

6 additional hours of environmental policy and management-relevant coursework

At least 3 hours must be taken at the 300-400 level. The courses approved for this requirement are listed on the department’s website. They may not be double-counted to meet other requirements for the Environmental Management and Policy concentration.
