Mathematics: Concentration in Statistics

This program is designed for students who have an interest in probability and statistics. Graduates may pursue a career in actuarial science, quality control or related fields, or enter a graduate program in statistics, mathematics or a related discipline.

An additional 6 hours chosen from:


MATH 280 or 300-400 level MATH or STAT courses. 

Students intending to pursue graduate study are strongly advised to take:


 

II. Required courses outside the major—12-15 hours, including:


CSCI 182, 183 (recommended), or 185;

at least 3 credit hours at the 200-level or above in ACCT, ATMS, CHEM, CSCI, ECE, ECON, JEM, MAE, or PHYS courses that are not used to complete the group below; or one additional course in MATH or STAT at the 300-level or above;

and one of the following groups of courses:
a) ACCT 215, and ACCT 216 or BUS 225
b) ASTR 102 and 320;
c) ATMS 103, 203, and 204
d) CHEM 111, 132, 145, and CHEM 231 or 233
e) 6 credit hours in CSCI at the 200-level or higher
f) ECON 103 and four additional credits in ECON at the 200-level or higher
g) 6 credit hours in ECE/JEM/MAE courses
h) PHYS 221 and 222

III. Major competency:


Demonstrated in MATH 480. The course must be completed with a grade of C or higher to graduate.
