Mathematics: Concentration in Statistics

I. Required courses in the major—40-44 hours, including:

• MATH 191 - Calculus I (4)

•           Note: MATH 191 requires completion of MATH 167 or placement

• MATH 192 - Calculus II (4)
• MATH 291 - Calculus III (4)
• MATH 365 - Linear Algebra I (3)
• MATH 381 - Problems in Mathematics (1)
• MATH 480 - Mathematics Seminar (2)
• STAT 325 - Introduction to Regression Models (3)
• STAT 326 - Statistics for Experimenters (3)
• STAT 425 - Introduction to Probability Theory (3)
• STAT 426 - Introduction to Mathematical Statistics (3)

II. Required courses outside the major—12-15 hours, including:

CSCI 182, 183 (recommended), or 185;

at least 3 credit hours at the 200-level or above in ACCT, ATMS, CHEM, CSCI, ECE, ECON, JEM, MAE, or PHYS courses that are not used to complete the group below; or one additional course in MATH or STAT at the 300-level or above;

and one of the following groups of courses:
a) ACCT 215, and ACCT 216 or BUS 225
b) ASTR 102 and 320;
c) ATMS 103, 203, and 204
d) CHEM 111, 132, 145, and CHEM 231 or 233
e) 6 credit hours in CSCI at the 200-level or higher
f) ECON 103 and four additional credits in ECON at the 200-level or higher
g) 6 credit hours in ECE/JEM/MAE courses
h) PHYS 221 and 222

III. Major competency:

Demonstrated in MATH 480. The course must be completed with a grade of C or higher to graduate.
