Earth Science with 9-12 Teacher Licensure

All Earth Science licensure students must complete the following program:

I. Required courses in the major—19–22 hours:

ENVR 330 requirement can be met by:

ENVR 490 requirement can be met by:

EDUC 455 - Student Teaching and Seminar (6)

II. Required courses in Earth Science Core—26–28 hours:

7-9 hours chosen from:

Either:

PHYS 131 - Introductory Physics I (4) or
PHYS 221 - Physics I (4)

III. Required courses outside the major—13–16 hours:

Either:

CHEM 132 - General Chemistry (3) or
Satisfactory score on Chemistry Placement Examination

Either:

MATH 167 - Precalculus (4) or
MATH 191 - Calculus I (4)

And:

Those requirements indicated under the Education section of the catalog.

IV. Other departmental requirements:

The senior demonstration of competency is satisfied by the completion of ENVR 330 and 490 with a C or better. The competency also can be satisfied by the completion of EDUC 396 and EDUC 496 with a C or better and satisfactory completion of EDUC 455 . Completion of ENVR 330 or EDUC 396 and EDUC 496 fulfills the all-university oral competency requirement. Completion of 241, 330 and 490 fulfills the all-university computer competency requirement.

Additional Information:

Students who wish to be licensed in Comprehensive Secondary Science (as distinct from Earth Science) must also complete BIOL 123 and BIOL 124 , PHYS 131 and PHYS 231 .
