UNC Asheville offers a variety of exchange opportunities with universities in England, France, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Turkey. We are also a member of the UNC-Exchange Program (UNCEP) and the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP), which allow students to study at universities in over 50 countries. Faculty-led programs are offered during the summer and over winter and spring breaks. Locations vary, but past trips have been to countries such as England, Ireland, Italy, Bolivia, Honduras, Spain, Greece and Turkey. Students can  also study through a wide variety of direct enrollment programs that are affiliated with UNC Asheville. Contact the Office of Study Abroad for additional information on qualifying programs.

All UNC Asheville students with a minimum grade-point average of 2.50, and who are classified as at least sophomores, are eligible to participate in a study abroad program. Students must have completed at least one semester of enrollment, and earned a minimum of 12 hours at UNC Asheville prior to applying for study abroad.

Before participating in a study abroad program, students must complete a Permission to Study Abroad form, available from the Office of Study Abroad. Permission must be obtained from the student’s advisor and major department, the Department of Foreign Languages (if foreign language courses are to be taken), the Director of Study Abroad, and the Office of the Registrar. The program must be approved by UNC Asheville and must meet accreditation guidelines. At the completion of the study abroad program, it is the student’s responsibility to have an official transcript mailed directly to the UNC Asheville Office of Study Abroad. There is an administrative fee for all students participating in any study abroad program.
