SPAN 340 - Art and Revolutions (4) We define revolution as events and moments of historical crisis, interventionism, opportunity, and resistance. We study those within their social, economic, and ideological contexts and focus on the aesthetic languages and trends emanating from them. The main geographical sites of study are the Americas and the Mediterranean, but we pursue studying artistic movements beyond geographical and political boundaries. This course aims to supplement history with the symbolic memory offered by literature, the visual arts, rhetoric, performance arts, and music. This course fulfills the Arts requirement of the Core Curriculum. See department chair.
