CHEM 223 - Foundations of Analytical Chemistry (3) This course is designed to provide an integrated view of chemical analysis through instrumental methods and their theoretical basis in solving real chemical problems. It engages students in the complete analytical process, including problem definition, method selection, sampling and sample preparation, method validation, data collection, interpretation, and reporting. It introduces the capabilities and limitations of analytical methods, covering instrument components and principles of their operation, including spectroscopy, chromatography, and mass spectrometry. The course illustrates how modern chemical analysis informs decision-making in science. Prerequisites: CHEM 145, 236. Spring.
