AMS 215 - Judaism and Christianity in the Ancient World (RELS 215) (4) A comparative examination of the development of Judaism and Christianity, beginning with their common heritage in the Israelite tradition, but focusing especially on the period between the formation of Second Temple Judaism (c. 450 B.C.E) and the Council of Chalcedon (451 C.E), as expressed in a variety of primary documents in translation, both canonical and noncanonical. Our examination of these documents will be informed by contemporary methods of literary and historical criticism. Odd years Spring.
