Students seeking in a Minor in Psychology must obtain a signed Declaration of Minor form from the chair of the Psychology Department. A minor in Psychology consists of 19 hours in Psychology including:

I. 6 credits:

PSYC 100 - Introductory Psychology (3)
PSYC 201 - Research Methods I (3)

II. A 3-credit non-laboratory course chosen from:

PSYC 200 - Social Psychology (3)
PSYC 208 - Abnormal Psychology (3)
PSYC 214 - Developmental Psychology (3)
PSYC 216 - Fundamentals of Neuroscience (NEUR 216) (3)
PSYC 290 - Psychology: Past and Present (3)

III. A 4-credit laboratory course chosen from:

PSYC 329 - Cognitive Psychology (4)
PSYC 334 - Psychology of Women (4)
PSYC 342 - Community Psychology (4)
PSYC 343 - Psychology and Law (4)
PSYC 347 - Psychological Testing (4)
PSYC 355 - Psychology of Family Violence (4)
PSYC 362 - Advanced Neuroscience (NEUR 362) (4)

IV. Six additional hours at the 300-400 level:

The 4-hour laboratory courses cannot be used for this requirement.

Additional Information

University-wide minimum requirements for a minor: 1) one-half of the hours required for a minor must be completed in residence at UNC Asheville, to include at least 6 hours at the 300-400 level; 2) students must have a cumulative grade-point-average of at least 2.0 on minor courses taken at UNC Asheville.
