Explores tensions between concepts of the old and new Europe; tradition and modernity; religiosity and secularism; pilgrimage and tourism; nationalism and liberalism; local and global; belonging and otherness. Using ethnographies and films, this class interrogates boundaries–spatial, temporal, metaphorical–of Europe.
