MUSC 366 - History of Music in Film (4)

Focused discussion and research on issues of diversity, race, gender, religion, age and socio-economic strata through the study of film music and its development, primarily in the United States, but also a brief comparison to film music in other cultures around the globe. By viewing films and film segments, writing reflections guided by prompts, followed by in-depth discussion of inherent aspects, students gain understanding of music’s use in filmmaking, bias and manipulation in the industry, stereotyping and the appropriating of gender, race and identity, and similar salient concepts within the art of film music design and implementation. Odd years Fall.
