FREN 450 - Contemporary French Linguistics (4)


Survey of the French language in France and around the world in the present day. Topics include social and dialectal language variation, language politics and planning, and effects of language contact in the Francophone world. Students will be introduced to linguistic theories and research methods that they will apply to observational, reflective, and analytical assignments. Students will also design and carry out a linguistic research project. This course is a complement of FREN 400, but these can be completed in any order. Prerequisite: FREN 325 or appropriate score on placement test. See department chair.
