HIST 393 - The Medieval Middle East(4) Explores the early history of the Middle East from the 5th to the 10th century. It covers the major political, religious, and social developments from pre-Islamic Arabia, the rise of Islam, the Rightly-Guided caliphate, Umayyads, and Abbasid caliphates. In addition to studying the socio-political history of the region, students will read primary sources in translation. See department chair.
