Presents the history of the United States by emphasizing the beginnings of African slavery to the development of the ‘peculiar institution’ in America by examining the intellectual debates surrounding labor needs and race. In a contextual setting, students will learn about the formation of a unique African American culture and its influence on the larger culture of the North American colonies and States.
